Full Time/ Deputy Clerk Position

The Town of Newry is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy to the Clerk /Tax Collector/Registrar of Voter. This is a full-time position and involves many responsibilities. It requires integrity, close attention to detail and some flexibility in hours.

The optimal candidate will possess the following skills: multi-tasking a must with the ability to answer the telephone; assisting customers by issuing various types or licenses, as well as marriage, death, and birth certificates; assist with elections; and ability to perform duties of the Clerk in his/her absence. Working knowledge of standard practices and procedures of the Clerk’s office and practical knowledge of accepted bookkeeping principles and basic computer skills preferred. Previous experience in a municipal clerk’s office preferred, however we are willing to train the right candidate that is eager to learn new software programs quickly and has the skillset to learn the position. Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, computer experience, reliable transportation, and clear credit history is a must.

Pay will depend on experience and qualifications, expected range ($15-$19/HR). The Office has a great schedule Monday through Thursday 7am -5pm; a benefit package which includes health insurance, dental, paid vacation and sick time is available to the chosen candidate. Out of abundance of caution the Newry Select Board has made the decision for the Newry Town Office to conduct transactions curbside as of February 16th.  We ask that you call ahead 207-824-3123 so we can best assist you with your transactions. There is a slot in the door to put your paperwork. We ask that you put your phone number on the transaction (i.e., car registration, new vehicle information, etc..) so if any questions arise, we can contact you. The Staff will call you when the request is complete. We will ask you to inform us how you plan to pay.

 Road Maintenance

The Town of Newry is seeking sealed bid offers from qualified contractors to provide year round road maintenance services for a three year contract term.

Information concerning this invitation to bid may be obtained by contacting the Town Office at 207-824-3123 during office hours, Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 5 pm.

All sealed bids must be marked “Road Maintenance” and be received by 4:00 p.m. on March 15, 2021 at the Newry Town Office, 422 Bear River Road Newry, Maine 04261, bids to be opened at 4:15 on that day. Bids will be considered at the March 16, 2021 Selectmen’s Meeting which begins at 5:00 pm. The Town reserves the right to accept any bid or reject any or all bids, to waive any irregularities and to accept any bid deemed in the best interest of the Town.

Road Maintenance Contract

Seeking Planning Board members

The Town is looking for people interested in becoming a member of the Newry Planning Board ( 2 regular members, and 2 alternate members open). You must be available the first and third Wednesdays of the month for approximately 2 hour meeting. We are willing to train anyone interested in the position. Reminder: The second payment for 2017-18 taxes are due on March 31st. Please reference your original bill for the stub which has the tax amount and due date. If you can not find your original bill feel free to call the Town office for you tax amount.
